Zapolski named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

 

PRINCETON, N.J. - Ryan Zapolski of the South Carolina Stingrays is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 18-24. It is the third time this season, and the fourth time in Zapolski’s career, that he has won the weekly honor.

 

The 26-year-old posted shutouts in both of his appearances last week, giving him three consecutive shutouts and four shutouts in his last six games.

 

Zapolski opened the week with 32 saves in a 2-0 win against Greenville on Friday and followed that up with 27 saves in 3-0 victory over the Road Warriors on Saturday.

 

A native of Erie, Pa., Zapolski is the fifth goaltender in ECHL history to post shutouts in three consecutive games. The Most Valuable Player of the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game, he leads the ECHL with seven shutouts, a 1.69 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage in 29 appearances this season.

 

Zapolski has appeared in 44 career ECHL games with South Carolina, Gwinnett, Kalamazoo and Toledo posting an overall record of 28-13-9 with nine shutouts, a 1.93 goals-against average and a save percentage of .931.
