Aces receive four, sign Zollars

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -The Alaska Aces, ECHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League, announced that goaltender Niklas Lundstrom, center Zach Pochiro, left wing Ryan Tesink, and right wing Jacob Doty have been assigned to the team by St. Louis. The Aces have also signed free agent defenseman Gentry Zollars.

Lundstrom, 21, was selected by the Blues in the fifth round (132nd overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and suited up in two games last season with the Swedish Elite League’s AIK, while also posting one shutout and 2.86 goals-against-average in 24 games with Sodertalje SK of HockeyAllsvenskan (Sweden). He also collected a 1.98 goals-against-average and .937 save percentage with AIK of the J20 SuperElit league. The 6-foot-2, 187 pound goaltender appeared in one preseason game for the Blues in September and helped Sweden earn a silver medal at the 2013 World Junior Championships. In three tournament appearances, he went 2-1 with a 1.60 goals-against-average and .944 save percentage.

Pochiro, 20, was selected in the fourth round (112th overall) by St. Louis in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and earned two assists in nine games with the Kalamazoo Wings as a rookie last season. Previously, he notched 105 points (42g-63a) and 228 penalty minutes in 128 career junior games with the Prince George Cougars (WHL) where he served as an alternate captain. The Las Vegas native earned a career-high 66 points (27g-39a) and 123 penalty minutes in 63 games last season, ranking third on the Cougars in scoring.

Tesink, 21, was selected by St. Louis in the sixth round (162nd overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and collected 152 points (51g-101a) and a +52 rating in 183 career junior games with Blainville-Boisbriand and Saint John of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He served as an alternate captain for both teams and also helped guide Saint John to a Memorial Cup title in 2011. Tesink had four goals in eight career Memorial Cup games.

Doty, 21, spent the last four seasons with Medicine Hat and Seattle of the Western Hockey League with 65 points and 467 penalty minutes in 270 career games. The 6-foot-3, 218 pound forward suited up in one preseason game for the Blues this season and was signed by St. Louis to a three-year, entry level contract on Sept. 26, 2013.

Zollars, 28, skated in 26 ECHL games last season with the Utah Grizzlies, Wheeling Nailers and Greenville Road Warriors, earning six points (1g-5a) and a +4 rating. The 6-foot, 190 pound defenseman has 10 points (2g-8a) in 70 career ECHL games, shared with five teams.
