ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Aces’ series-opening salvo against the Victoria Salmon Kings on Friday night furnished them with a terrific template for success in the ECHL’s West Division finals. The Aces combined power-play prosperity and penalty-killing prowess, seized an early lead and then leaned on the goaltending of Jean-Philippe Lamoureux, all of which tilted the odds their way in a 3-0 victory at Sullivan Arena.
And, of course, skating on home ice, this time before an announced crowd of 4,933, never hurts the Aces’ cause.
Dating back to the regular season, they have won nine straight matches at Sullivan Arena and 20 of their last 22 on the Olympic-sized ice sheet.
“We seem to play our best hockey here,” Lamoureux said. “We’ve done that on a pretty consistent basis. We want to continue that and make home ice a factor.”
