ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Aces announced that they have signed goaltender Matt Underhill. The Aces are the ECHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League and the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League.
Alaska acquired the 28-year-old from the Mississippi Sea Wolves in exchange for goaltender Lance Mayes and future considerations, which became the rights to right wing Olivier Filion.
Underhill was 3-0-0 with a goals-against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .943 in three regular season games with the Aces and 1-1 in three Kelly Cup Playoff games. He was 13-8-3 with a goals against of 2.65 and a save percentage of .923 in 24 starts with Mississippi. He has also been called up to the American Hockey League twice, stopping all 17 shots faced in a game for St. John’s and going 1-2-1 with one shutout, a 2.95 goals-against average and .885 save percentage in five games with Providence.
