Aliu assigned to Eagles

LOVELAND, Colo. – The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets and the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps, announced today that forward Akim Aliu has been sent to the team through its affiliation agreements.

Born in Nigeria, Aliu’s family moved to Ukraine shortly after his birth before settling in Canada – making him fluent in both Russian and English. Just as his background is uncommon, so too are his hockey skills. Aliu was a second round selection (56th overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and possesses a great blend of size (6-foot-3-inches, 220 pounds) and skill.

The right-handed shooting winger is entering his third season as a pro, having played 114 games at the AHL level and 29 in the ECHL in that span. At the ECHL level, Alui has registered more than a point-per-game (1.17), compiling 34 points (17g-17a) playing one stint each with the Toledo Walleye and the Gwinnett Gladiators.
