ATLANTA – The Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League announced that they have acquired former Columbia Inferno right wing Jesse Schultz from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for former Gwinnett Gladiators defenseman Jimmy Sharrow.
Gwinnett is the ECHL affiliate of the Thrashers of the NHL and the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.
The 24-year-old Schultz began his professional career in 2003-04 and had 48 points (21g-27a) in 52 regular season games and three points (1g-2a) in four Kelly Cup Playoff games for Columbia while also playing two games in the AHL with Manitoba where he had one assist.
The 6-foot and 192-pound Schultz is one of 329 players who has played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL, having made his NHL debut on Nov. 28, 2006 with the Thrashers against Columbus. In addition to two games with Atlanta in the NHL, Schultz had 39 points (18g-21a) in 67 games with Manitoba of the AHL.
