AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Lynx announced that defenseman Sean Blanchard has been assigned from the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.
The Lynx are the ECHL affiliate of the Pirates of the AHL and the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League.
Selected in the fourth round (99th overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, the 28-year-old has played the last five seasons overseas after playing his first three professional seasons in the ECHL, the American Hockey League and the International Hockey League from 1998-2001.
In three seasons in the ECHL with Florida, Mississippi and Trenton, the 5-foot-11 and 198-pound Blanchard had 59 points (10g-49a) and 90 penalty minutes in 111 regular season games and 10 assists and six penalty minutes in 22 games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. He was a member of the Kelly Cup championship team in 1999 when he had eight assists in 17 games for Mississippi.
