PRINCETON, N.J. – Augusta goaltender Jason Saal is the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for March 8-14.
Saal went 3-0-0 with a goals against average of 0.96 and a save percentage of .972 as Augusta went 3-0-0 and improved to 27-27-7.
Saal posted back-to-back shutouts on March 9 and 13 and has moved into a tie for the league lead with four shutouts while moving into third place on the ECHL career list with 16 shutouts, two behind Daniel Berthiaume and three behind leader Marc Magliarditi.
After making 42 saves in a 5-0 win at South Carolina on March 9, Saal stopped 28 shots in regulation and two shots in overtime before stopping four of five shooters in the shootout for a 1-0 win against Florence on March 13. He had 34 saves in a 4-3 overtime win against Pensacola on March 14. A first period goal by Tyler Beechey at 11:20 of the first period ended Saal’s team record shutout sequence of 187:21 that began on March 6.
Saal is 15-8-1 and ranks third in the ECHL with a save percentage of .930 and ranks 12th with a goals against average of 2.42 in 27 games for the Lynx. He leads ECHL goaltenders in scoring with six assists and six points. He had three assists in a 4-2 win against Greenville on December 12, setting league records for points and assists in a game by a goaltender.
