ONTARIO, Calif. – When Chris Curran came out of surgery in a Bakersfield hospital in April, he received two very different outlooks for the future of his hockey career.
One was from the surgeon who operated on the gritty forward’s broken right femur.
“He said, `This might be it. You might be done based on the break,”‘ Curran said.
The other was from Reign coach Karl Taylor.
“He said, `I’ll sign you to a contract next year. No matter what, I want you back.’
“Knowing that he wanted me back here,” Curran recalled, “gave me that extra drive to work a little harder in the summer to come back this year.”
