Barnes Named Peterborough Assistant

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario – The Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League announced that they have hired former ECHL left wing Ryan Barnes.

The 28 year old played in the ECHL as a rookie in 2000-01 and had six points (2g-4a) and 31 penalty minutes in 16 games with Toledo and seven penalty minutes in one game with Cincinnati in the American Hockey League. He returned to Toledo in 2001-02 and had one goal in one game and five points (2g-3a) and 152 penalty minutes in 46 games with Cincinnati.

Barnes played in the NHL with Detroit appearing in two games in 2003-04 while also playing in the AHL where he had 19 points (6g-13a) and 175 penalty minutes in 69 regular season games and seven penalty minutes in four playoff games for Grand Rapids.

He helped Barrie win the OHL championship and advance to the finals of the Memorial Cup in 1999-2000 registering 29 points (17g-12a) and 98 penalty minutes in 31 regular season games and 14 points (7g-7a) and 49 penalty minutes in 25 playoff games.
