Stan Drulia is in his second season with Wheeling after being named to the position on July 1, 2010. In his first season with the Nailers, he led the club to their first appearance in the Conference Finals since 1998.
The 43-year-old Drulia is in his ninth season as a head coach and joined Wheeling after a four year stint with the Port Huron Flags and Port Huron IceHawks of the UHL and IHL in which his team increased its win total each season. In 2009-10 Port Huron finished an impressive 47-25-4. Drulia won the IHL Coach of the Year award with Port Huron in 2008 and in the ACHL with Orlando in 2003 when he won a championship in his coaching debut. He has coaching experience in the ECHL with the Augusta Lynx from 2003-05 and as an assistant coach with the Toledo Storm in 2005-06.
An 11th round selection by Pittsburgh in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft, Drulia played 126 NHL games with Tampa Bay scoring 42 points (15g-27a). He was named ECHL Most Valuable Player in 1990-91 when he scored 140 points (64g-77a) in 64 games with Knoxville. Drulia also saw action in the AHL with Cape Breton and New Haven and in the IHL with Phoenix, Atlanta and Detroit. Drulia is the Ontario Hockey Legaue’s career scoring leader with 479 points (198g-281a) from 1984-89 with Belleville, Hamilton and Niagara Falls.
