COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Blue Jackets announced that they have re-signed defenseman Francois Beauchemin to a two-year contract. Selected in the third round (75th overall) by Montreal in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-0 and 214-pound Beauchemin was acquired by Columbus off waivers from Montreal on September 14, 2004.
The Dayton Bombers are the ECHL affiliate of Columbus of the NHL and Syracuse of the American Hockey League.
The 25-year-old Beauchemin played for Syracuse in 2004-05 and led the team with a +17 plus-minus rating while leading the team’s defensemen with 30 points (3g-27a), his second-consecutive 30-point season in the AHL.
Beauchemin scored four points (1g-3a) in seven games with Mississippi in 2001-02 while also playing in the AHL for Quebec where he scored 19 points (8g-11a) in 56 regular season games and had one assist in three playoff games.
He made his NHL debut with Montreal on February 27, 2003 against Minnesota.
