LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The ingenuity of thousands of Manatee and Sarasota hockey fans has paid off. After a six-week contest, the team’s name is set, and a logo incorporating the DVA Sports black, red and white has been designed.
DVA Sports officials plan to hold a news conference at noon Tuesday in the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, where they will unveil the name and logo of the ECHL’s newest franchise.
Fans could also learn Tuesday the name that will adorn the $70 million, 7,400-seat facility and the company that shelled out lots of dollars to make it so.
DVA Sports will have a bus available after the news conference to transport people to and from the arena construction site, said Larry Kish, the company’s senior vice president.
It’s a construction site that has benefited greatly from the extended dryness following a busy rainy season, said Chuck Madden, a development partner with DVA Sports in building the privately funded arena project.
“Construction has really picked up. We’re happy,” Madden said. “As long as it stays this way, we’re really optimistic.”
