Burke Hired As Peoria Broadcaster

PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League announced that they have hired Brendan Burke as their play-by-play broadcaster and director of communications.

He has been the “Voice of the Wheeling Nailers” the last two seasons on B2 Networks, the “Official Broadband Broadcast Provider of the ECHL,” and on Mix 93.7 FM.

The Alaska Aces are the ECHL affiliate of the Rivermen of the AHL and the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League. The head coach of the Rivermen is Davis Payne, who was the 2007 ECHL Coach of the Year.

Burke, who also served as the director of broadcasting and communications for the Nailers, was named ECHL Broadcaster of the Year for the American Conference in 2007-08 and worked as a member of the audio broadcast team for the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game.

The 24 year old has worked during the offseason as the play-by-play voice for the Lakewood BlueClaws, the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate in the South Atlantic League. He began his professional broadcast career after graduation in 2006 working first in minor league baseball with Batavia before joining the Nailers.

He was awarded his bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in sports studies from Ithaca College. He was the sports director for both of the school’s radio stations while doing play-by-play broadcasts of Ithaca sports as well as women’s hockey for Cornell University.
