Canucks Acquire Aces’ FitzGerald

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League announced that they have acquired former Alaska Aces defenseman Zack FitzGerald from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for former Victoria Salmon Kings center Francois-Pierre Guenette.

Victoria is the ECHL affiliate of the Canucks of the NHL and the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.

Selected in the third round (88th overall) by St. Louis in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the 22-year-old Fitzgerald had one assist and 48 penalty minutes in 10 regular season games and five points (2g-3a) and 82 penalty minutes in 14 games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for Alaska in 2006-07 while also playing in the AHL where he had two assists and 86 penalty minutes in 29 games for Peoria.

The 6-foot-2 and 220-pound defenseman had two points (1g-1a) and 108 penalty minutes in 12 games for Alaska as a rookie in 2005-06 while also playing for Peoria where he had two points (1g-1a) and 47 penalty minutes in 13 games.
