NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays announced that the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League have reassigned rookie goaltender Daren Machesney from Hershey of the American Hockey League to South Carolina. The Stingrays also announced that they have signed rookie defenseman Tim Judy.
The Stingrays are the ECHL affiliate of the Capitals of the NHL and the Calder Cup champion Bears of the AHL.
Selected in the fifth round (143rd overall) by Washington in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and under NHL contract to the Capitals, the 20-year-old Machesney is 3-3-1 with a goals-against average of 3.18 and a save percentage of .887 in 10 games with Hershey and 2-5-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 3.24 and a save percentage of .878 in seven games with South Carolina. He also dressed for two games in the NHL as the backup goaltender for former ECHL goaltender Olaf Kolzig.
