WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals announced that they have signed defenseman Lawrence Nycholat, who played in the ECHL as a rookie.
In his first professional season in 2000-01, Nycholat scored three points (1g-2a) in five games with Jackson of the ECHL and also played in the International Hockey League with Cleveland, scoring 10 points (3g-7a) in 42 regular season games and one goal in 14 playoff games.
In 2004-05, the 26-year-old Nycholat was voted as a starter in the American Hockey League All-Star Game and led Hartford defensemen and ranked fourth on the team with 43 points (5g-38a) in 79 regular season games.
In 2003-04, Nycholat made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers and had six penalty minutes in nine NHL games. He also played in the AHL in 2003-04, registering 130 penalty minutes and 32 points (6g-26a) in 72 regular season games and five assists and 28 penalty minutes in 16 playoff games with Hartford.
