Captain Nightingale returns to Walleye

Toledo, Ohio – Defenseman and team captain Jared Nightingale has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2016-17 season.

The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Detroit Red Wings and the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

A native of Jackson, Mich., Nightingale was Toledo’s captain in each of the past two years while posting a team high 79 penalty minutes to go along with seven assists over 37 games. In two seasons with the Walleye, Nightingale has 103 penalty minutes and 11 points (2g-9a) over 61 contests. He appeared in the 600th game of his professional career on Jan. 9, 2016 at Reading.

Since turning professional in 2006, Nightingale has collected 971 penalty minutes along with 58 points (16g-42a) in 460 games in the American Hockey League. This past season he skated in 31 games for the Chicago Wolves scoring six points (2g-4a). Nightingale has seen AHL time for Chicago, Norfolk, Hartford, Grand Rapids, Milwaukee, Syracuse, Springfield, Iowa, Connecticut and Rockford in his career.

Nightingale has 175 career ECHL contests on his resume with 38 points (6g-32a) and 479 penalty minutes. Nightingale played for Idaho in 2006-07 and Charlotte from 2007-10 in his other ECHL stops. Prior to turning pro he played college hockey for Michigan State from 2002-06 and was an alternate captain in his junior and senior seasons.
