Charlotte, McMorrow Agree To Terms
Checkers Sign Messier

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Checkers announced that they have signed rookie defenseman Lyon Messier and that they have agreed to terms with right wing Sean McMorrow.

The 21-year-old Messier, who is the son of NHL Hall of Famer Mark Messier, played in the United States Hockey League in 2007-08 and had 17 points (5g-12a) and 45 penalty minutes in 46 regular season games and three points (1g-2a) and six penalty minutes in eight playoff games for Lincoln. He also played in the Ontario Hockey League where he had four penalty minutes in eight games with Erie.

Selected in the eighth round (258th overall) by Buffalo in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, the 26-year-old McMorrow played in the North American Hockey League in 2007-08 and had five points (1g-4a) and 527 penalty minutes in 48 games for St. Hyacinthe.
