Checkers Agree To Terms With DeWaele, Gillies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Checkers announced that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Kirk DeWaele and forward Nathan Gillies.

The Checkers are the ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League and the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

Selected in the 10th round (246th overall) by the New York Islanders in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot-1 and 205-pound Dewaele had 11 points (3g-18a) and 105 penalty minutes in 69 regular season games and 10 penalty minutes in five games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for Charlotte in 2006-07.

The 26-year-old Gillies had career bests with 24 assists and 41 points while accumulating 77 penalty minutes in 62 regular season games and four points (2g-2a) and 16 penalty minutes in five Kelly Cup Playoff games for Charlotte in 2006-07.
