It’s hard to be too excited about the Charlotte Checkers chances to stave off elimination heading into Sunday’s Game 6 of the playoff series against the South Carolina Stingrays.
You’d expect the Checkers, trailing 3-2 in the best-of-7 series, to play an emotional game.
But you have to hope they also play smarter, sharper and more together.
On the plus side, Game 6 will be at Extreme Ice Center, the Checkers’ practice facility in Indian Trail, where they won Games 1 and 2.
On the down side, South Carolina won the past three games convincingly – 8-3, 4-1 and 4-2.
Eight goals allowed in a pivotal playoff game is a nasty red flag. Charlotte allowed five on the power play in Game 5.
Charlotte must win Sunday – and that’s not a given – then figure a way to beat the Stingrays on the road.
But first, Game 6 and possible elimination looms.
