JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Johnstown Chiefs announced that for the 19th year in a row in 2006-07 the team continued its efforts to give back and assist charitable organizations in the Laurel Highlands region.
Johnstown celebrates its 20th Anniversary in 2007-08 and is the only one of the five original ECHL teams that still plays in the same city as they did in 1988-89.
The Chiefs and Food for Families collected and donated more than 600 pounds of food to local residents in need during the Thanksgiving holiday. The team joined with the United States Marine Corps and Cool 101 to collect over 3,300 toys for underprivileged children and players raised more than $600 for The Salvation Army as bell ringers for a day.
A season-long blood drive helped the American Red Cross see almost a 20 percent increase in whole blood donations.
