JOHNSTOWN, Calif. – The Johnstown Chiefs announced that they have signed goaltender Ryan Nie.
The Chiefs are the ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League and the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League.
The 22 year old was 20-8-4 with seven shutouts, a league record goals-against average of 2.02 and a save percentage of .929 in 35 games for Kalamazoo of the United Hockey League. Nie set the league record for goals-against average and was named to the league’s all-rookie team.
Johnstown celebrates its 20th Anniversary in 2007-08 and is the only one of the five original ECHL teams that still plays in the same city as they did in 1988-89. The Chiefs are hosting the Wheeling Nailers in a special Opening Day game which will be the only game played in the ECHL on Oct. 18.
