Peoria’s 6-2 win against Trenton on Saturday was the 209th career victory for Rivermen head coach Jason Christie, tying him with Pat Kelly for the Rivermen career lead in coaching victories. In his fifth season behind the Peoria bench, Christie is 193-90-38 in the regular season and 16-15 in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, advancing to the Finals his first season in 2000-01.
Commissioner Emeritus of the ECHL and the man for whom the league postseason championship trophy is named, Kelly was 209-204-36 in five seasons with the Rivermen when the team competed as a member of the International Hockey League. Kelly, who is a member of the Rivermen Hall of Fame, led the Rivermen to the IHL Championship in 1984-85.
Kelly has 1,900 career games and 935 wins to rank second all-time among professional coaches, trailing only Scotty Bowman, who has 2,571 games and 1,511 wins.
