Perry Florio is in his fifth season with the Roanoke Express, the third asHead Coach and the second as General Manager. He is the team’s third benchboss in its 10-year existence.
Florio has a record of 73-56-15 in two seasons as head coach, a .559 winningpercentage. Since he joined Roanoke as an assistant coach in 1998, theExpress has 145 wins, two division titles and four straight appearances inthe Kelly Cup Playoffs. During Florio’s tenure, three Express players havesigned contracts with Natiaonl Hockey League teams despite Roanoke nothaving a NHL affiliation until this season.
A fourth-round draft choice of the Los Angeles Kings in the 1985 NHL EntryDraft, Florio played six professional seasons with Knoxville and Johnstownin the East Coast Hockey League and Hershey in the American Hockey League.Upon his retirement following the 1994-95 season, Florida held Johnstownteam records for points by a defenseman (215), games played (358) andpenalty minutes (799), and held the ECHL record for games played (358). Healso represented the United States in the World Junior Championships inHelsinski, Finland in 1985 after three years of college hockey at ProvidenceCollege and Northern Michigan.
A native of Long Island, New York, Florio and his wife, Amy, live in Roanokewith their two children, Katie and Ryan.
