Wydo, 24, joined the Nailers toward the end of the 2014-15 season, and had a professional debut that ranked among the most memorable in recent history. On March 27, he netted his first pro goal against the Fort Wayne Komets, tying a key divisional game, 1-1 in the third period. A little more than two minutes later, he assisted on Sahir Gill‘s eventual winning goal, locking up first star honors in a 2-1 Wheeling victory. The Allen Park, Mich. native went on to appear in nine regular season games and three playoff contests with the Nailers, accumulating six points.
Prior to making the jump to the ECHL, Wydo played four years of college hockey at nearby Robert Morris University. Wydo served as the team captain during his senior season, when he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award as college hockey’s top player. In 151 career games with the Colonials, Wydo frequently appeared on the scoresheet, setting school records with 85 goals (31 as a junior) and 150 points (54 as a junior).
