COLUMBIA, South Carolina (Ticker) — Tim Smith netted the game-winning goal and Patrick Couture made 26 saves as theColumbia Inferno defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves, 4-2, totake the best-of-seven Southern Conference Finals series, fourgames to two. Smith tallied his fifth playoff goal 8:06 into thesecond period to give Columbia a 3-1 lead. Couture stopped 26of 28 shots to improve his playoff record to 10-1-1. Sean Owenstied the game at 1-1 with 3:37 remaining in the first period andChris Pittman added an empty-net goal with 2:26 left in thegame. Sergei Kuznetsov scored his team-leading seventh goal ofthe playoffs 5:50 into the first period for Mississippi and MikeScott notched his sixth goal of the playoffs with 2:21 left inthe second to cut the deficit to 3-2. Greg Gardner suffered hisfourth loss of the playoffs, stopping 27 of 31 shots.
