Condors Hockey-Thon Raises Over $23,000

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors announced that the first-ever Condors Hockey-Thon on March 25-26 at the Rabobank Arena and the Bakersfield Ice Center raised more than $23,000 for Link to Life, a local breast cancer resource center.

Organized by former Bakersfield defenseman and current color commentator Kevin Barrett, the 27-hour event had more than 90 players playing over three dozen 17-minute periods and included two Condors games against Gwinnett.

“I want to thank the players. Every player that showed up after the event began at midnight played in every game and nobody wimped out,” said Barrett. “It all started with a vision to raise awareness for breast cancer and help a local resource center and to have it all come to fruition is a great feeling, but without the players we wouldn’t have been able to do it. I’d also like to thank my wife Amy and all of her volunteers for organizing everything off the ice.

“It was so much fun that we may have to do it again next year.”
