Davenport Enjoys Time With Steelheads

BOISE, Idaho – While Richard Bachman‘s away, Tony Davenport gets to play.

Well, not play so much as practice, really. But it’s still not a bad gig for the 23-year-old Eagle High graduate.

Bachman is the Idaho Steelheads’ highly touted rookie goalie who was called up to the Texas Stars of the AHL on Dec. 1.

Since then, Rejean Beauchemin has been handling all of Idaho’s goaltending duties – and Davenport has had a spot on the Steelheads’ bench as the team’s emergency backup goalie.

“He’s been great for us in practice,” Steelheads coach Derek Laxdal said of Davenport. “We don’t ask him to prepare like the guys do, but it’s good for him to see some shots and experience being a Steelhead.”
