Defenseman Clare re-signs with Walleye

Toledo, Ohio – Defenseman Kevin Clare has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2015-16 season.

The Walleye are the ECHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.

Clare tallied 18 points (3g-15a) last year with the Walleye, his first professional season. He also had 31 penalty minutes and was a +8. The 23-year-old defenseman also appeared in six games during Toledo’s playoff run.

The native of New Rochelle, N.Y. posted 24 points (3g-21a) and was a +13 over four years at the University of Michigan. He had a career-high 10 assists in 2013-14 and blocked a team-best 81 shots. The 6’1", 195-pound defenseman was part of Michigan’s CCHA regular season championship team in 2010-11 and helped that team reach the Frozen Four as a freshman. Prior to his college hockey, the 22-year-old played for the US National Under 18 and Under 17 teams, gaining 116 total games with 27 points (10g-17a).
