Defenseman Martin joins Komets

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Komets announced that James Martin has agreed to terms with the club for the 2014-15 season.

The Komets are the ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League and the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League.

Martin, 23, spent most of his third pro year last season skating 51 games with the Alaska Aces, setting career highs of 15 assists and 17 points. He also skated in two games with the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hocke League, and went on the earn a Kelly Cup ring with the Aces, skating in 10 games during the postseason.

In 2012-13, Martin tallied 13 points (3g-10a) in 44 games with the Utah Grizzlies while also appearing in five AHL games with Abbotsford. Martin has amassed ECHL totals of 30 points (5g-25a) and 87 penalty minutes as he enters his fourth pro campaign.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba native capped a four-year major junior career in 2010-11 with Kootenay of the Western Hockey League, posting juniors career highs of 11 goals, 18 assists and 29 points in 65 games prior to helping the Ice to the 2011 WHL Championship.
