Detroit Signs 2007 ECHL Goaltender Of The Year Berkhoel

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League announced that they have signed 2007 ECHL Goaltender of the Year Adam Berkhoel.

ECHL coaches named the 26 year old Rbk Hockey Goaltender of the Year for 2006-07 after he was 23-17-3 with five shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .910 while helping Dayton finish first in the North Division and return to the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2001.

Berkhoel tied for the Kelly Cup Playoffs lead with three shutouts and was 12-10 with a goals-against average of 2.56 and a save percentage of .914 as the Bombers won the American Conference and advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals.

He was the starting goaltender for the American Conference in the 2007 ECHL All-Star Game and was named and Most Valuable Player after stopping 10 of 11 shots in the first period of a 6-3 win.
