ELMIRA, N.Y. – In some ways, the Elmira Jackals and Trenton Devils are mirror images of each other.
The two teams will meet in the best-of-seven ECHL American North division semifinals starting Friday at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, N.J.
The Devils (40-25-2-5) gained home-ice advantage thanks to their two-point edge (87-85) over the Jackals (39-26-2-5) at the end of the regular season. Elmira had the upper hand one-to-one, going 7-5-0-1 against Trenton.
Of the 13 games, nine were decided by one goal. And the series went in streaks, as Elmira won the first four meetings and Trenton the next five. The Jackals closed out against the Devils by going 3-0-0-1.
“I think we’re pretty evenly matched,” said Trenton coach Rick Kowalsky, who earlier this week received the John Brophy Award after being named ECHL Coach of the Year by vote of the league coaches.
