Eagles add skill and toughness with defenseman Zahn

WINDSOR, Colo. – The Colorado Eagles, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames and AHL’s Adirondack Flames, announced that they have signed Teigan Zahn for the 2014-15 season.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound defenseman spent the 2013-14 season with Utah Grizzlies, where he posted 18 points (7g-11a) and 146 penalty minutes in 48 games. In addition, the Bethune, Saskatchewan native also received a call-up to the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL, notching one assist and 20 penalty minutes in eight games. Zahn has played in 13 AHL games after seeing action in five contests with the Oklahoma City Barons during the 2012-13 campaign.

In total, Zahn has amassed 31 ECHL points, including 13 points (5g-8a) in 34 games with the Stockton Thunder in the 2012-13 season. Drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fifth round (132nd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Zahn played five seasons with the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL, logging 65 points (12g-53a) and 551 penalty minutes in 287 games. Zahn also serbed as the Blades’ captain during the 2010-11 season, finishing the year with a plus-minus rating of +39. He also competed in the developmental camps of the Blackhawks in 2008 and 2009 and the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2011. After finishing his major-junior career, Zahn spent one season at the University of Calgary, collecting 15 points (3g-12a) and 75 penalty minutes in 27 games with the Dinos.
