Eagles sign Colorado native Zimmerman

WINDSOR, Colo. – The Colorado Eagles, ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the NHL and Adirondack Flames of the AHL, announced that they have signed defenseman Sean Zimmerman for the 2014-15 season.

Born in Denver, Colorado, Zimmerman was a sixth-round selection (170th overall) of the New Jersey Devils in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and has played in nearly 300 AHL contests. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman spent the past two seasons with the Denver Cutthroats of the Central Hockey League, where he registered 24 points (3g-21a) and 189 penalty minutes in 127 games.

In total, Zimmerman has appeared in 274 games in the AHL, with stops in Syracuse, Providence, Rochester, San Antonio, Lowell and Albany. He has also logged eight games in the ECHL after a brief stint with the Trenton Devils in 2007-08. In addition to his professional experience, Zimmerman was also part of the 2007 United States National Team that captured the bronze medal at the World Junior Championship in Sweden. His major-junior career saw the blue-liner notch 59 points (10g-49a) 270 games with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL from 2003-07.
