Shawn St-Amant’s fifth goal of the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs propelled the Colorado Eagles to a 3-2 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays and a 2-0 series lead in the 2017 Kelly Cup Finals.
South Carolina’s Steven McParland had the only goal of the first period, tipping in a shot by Joey Leach past Eagles’ goaltender Lukas Hafner four minutes into the game. The goal was McParland’s second of the 2017 Kelly Cup Finals and sixth of the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs with Leach and John Parker earning the assists.
Matt Garbowsky, who had two goals in Game 1 on Friday night, evened things up for for the Eagles with a Power Play Goal 3:34 into the second period.
Less than a minute later, Eagles’ captain Sean Zimmerman pulled his team ahead by one with a wrist shot past Parker Milner off a feed from Shawn St-Amant. It was Zimmerman’s second goal of the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
But with 51 seconds left in the period, Steve Weinstein secured his first goal of the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs to bring the Stingrays even with the Eagles heading into the final frame.
St-Amant’s game winning goal came off a one-timer in front of the cage off a feed from Casey Pierro-Zabotel at 10:09 in the third period.
