ECHL approves sale of Norfolk Admirals

The ECHL announced on Friday that the League’s Board of Governors has approved the transfer of 100 percent interest in the Norfolk Admirals’ Membership from KG (U.S.) Oilers Corp. to Power Play, LLC.


“We are excited and looking forward to this new opportunity,” said Ardon Wiener, a Partner in the new ownership group. “The Admirals have a long successful history in Norfolk and we are committed to the team and look forward to working with the community, season ticket holders, fans and the city to continue the Admirals success.”


“We are pleased to welcome Ardon and his family as owners in the ECHL,” said ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna. “We share their enthusiasm for the Norfolk market and look forward to working with the new management team.”

Began in 1988-89 with five teams in four states, the ECHL has grown into a coast-to-coast league with 27 teams in 21 states and one Canadian province for its 29th season in 2016-17. There have been 599 players who have gone on to play in the National Hockey League after starting their careers in the ECHL, including 30 who made their NHL debuts in the 2015-16 season. The ECHL has affiliations with 26 of the 30 NHL teams in 2016-17, marking the 20th consecutive season that the league had affiliations with at least 20 teams in the NHL.
