ECHL mourns loss of former player Boogaard

PRINCETON, N.J. – The ECHL and its member teams mourn the loss and express their condolences to the family and friends of former ECHL left wing Derek Boogaard, who passed away on Friday.


Selected in the seventh round (202nd overall) by the Minnesota Wild in the 2001 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Boogaard played 33 games with the Louisiana IceGators in 2002-03 scoring three points (1g-2a) and adding 240 penalty minutes. Boogaard made his National Hockey League debut with Minnesota in 2005-06 and went on to play in 277 games with the Wild and New York Rangers tallying 16 points (3g-13a) and adding 589 penalty minutes.


The 28 year old is survived by his mother, Joanne; father, Len; brothers, Ryan and Aaron and sister, Krysten.
