ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira Jackals are a game away from clinching the first ECHL playoff series victory in their history.
The Jackals scored a couple of power-play goals, then added an insurance empty-netter late in the game to defeat the Trenton Devils 3-1 in Game 4 of the American North semifinals Thursday night at First Arena.
Elmira now owns a 3-1 advantage in the series and can wrap up the best-of-seven matchup Saturday night at First Arena.
Michael Teslak continued his stellar play in goal, stopping 27 of the 28 shots he faced. He didn’t allow a goal through the first two periods — giving him a streak of more than 9 1/2 periods of shutout hockey in the playoffs — before Jim Henkel broke the ice for Trenton on the power play 3 minutes, 33 seconds into the third period.
