Elmira’s Stewart named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Brian Stewart of the Elmira Jackals is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 28-Dec. 4. He also won the award for the week ending March 27, 2011 while with Bakersfield.


The 26-year-old was 4-0-0 with a goals against average of 1.88 and a save percentage of .937 last week as the Jackals extended their winning streak to five games, and moved into first place of the Atlantic Division with 24 points.


Stewart stopped 21 shots, and all three shootout attempts, in a 3-2 win at Reading on Wednesday and then made 38 saves plus four saves on four shootout attempts in a 5-4 victory over Trenton on Friday. On Saturday, he made 28 saves in a 3-1 win against Reading, and he ended his week with 31 saves, and four shootout stops, in a 2-1 win at Trenton on Sunday.


A native of Burnaby, British Columbia, Stewart is 8-3-0 in 12 appearances this season with a 2.62 goals-against average and a save percentage of .920. He has stopped all 16 shootout attempts this season, and in his two seasons in the ECHL he is a perfect 21-for-21 in the shootout.


Under contract to Binghamton of the American Hockey League, Stewart has appeared in 41 career ECHL games with Greenville, Bakersfield and Elmira posting a record of 28-9-0 with one shutout, a 2.36 goals-against average and a save percentage of .925. He has also appeared in 13 career AHL games with Adirondack going 5-7-0 with a 3.18 goals-against average and a save percentage of .889.
