ECHL announces 2017 Preseason Schedule

The ECHL on Monday announced its preseason schedule of 23 games beginning Oct. 5 and continuing through Oct. 9.

The Premier ‘AA’ Hockey League will open its 30th season with eight games on Friday, Oct. 13. Opening weekend continues with 12 games on Saturday, Oct. 14 and one game on Sunday, Oct. 15.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,252 fans per game in 2016-17, the 13th consecutive season and the 25th time in the last 27 years that the ECHL has averaged over 4,000 fans.

About the ECHL

Began in 1988-89 with five teams in four states, the ECHL has grown into a coast-to-coast league with 27 teams in 21 states and one Canadian province as it celebrates its 30th season in 2017-18. There have been  who have played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL, including 24 who made their debut in the 2016-17 season. The ECHL has affiliations with 27 of the 30 NHL teams in 2017-18, marking the 21st consecutive season that the league had affiliations with at least 20 teams in the NHL.
