Freschi, Robertson sign with Mavericks

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks announced two more additions to the 2017-18 roster, forwards Eric Freschi and Matt Robertson.

The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames and the American Hockey League's Stockton Heat.

Freschi signs with the Mavericks after completing his collegiate career at Cornell University in 2016-17. In each of the past two seasons, the 24-year-old received the Cornell Hockey Association Award for contributions to the team that are demonstrated in energy, heart and hustle.

The Bloomington, Minn. native was a fixture on the Big Red penalty kill throughout his collegiate career. Last season, Freschi led Cornell with a +14 rating while tallying 14 points (2g-12a) in 35 games. Freschi played in a total of 126 games with Cornell, finishing his collegiate career with 30 points (9g-21a), 128 penalty minutes and a +4 rating.

Prior to his collegiate career, Freschi played for the United States Hockey League’s Dubuque Fighting Saints, totaling 51 points (28g-23a) and 138 penalty minutes with a +21 rating in 114 games.

Robertson, 25, rejoins the Mavericks after playing his final 28 games of 2016-17 in Kansas City. In that time, he posted 13 points (6g-7a) with a +8 rating. The Mavericks signed Robertson on Dec. 9 after he played his first two professional games with the Reading Royals.

The Rohnert Park, Calif. native played college hockey at Ferris State, setting career-high marks as a junior with 17 assists, 23 points and a +7 rating in 2014-15. As a sophomore, Robertson helped the Bulldogs win the WCHA regular-season championship, earn a NCAA Tournament berth and reach the school’s first-ever Frozen Four.
