Veteran defenseman Monfredo re-signs with Solar Bears

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that the club has agreed to terms with veteran defenseman Mike Monfredo for the 2018-19 season.

Monfredo returns for his second season in Orlando and his seventh season in pro hockey after posting totals of 23 points (7g-16a) and a team-leading 148 penalty minutes in 68 games during the 2017-18 campaign. For his efforts, Monfredo was named team MVP for the season. The 28-year-old blueliner then went on to add one assist and 40 penalty minutes in nine playoff contests.

The Shirley, New York native has skated in 407 combined professional games with the Solar Bears, Rapid City Rush and Quad City Mallards, producing 167 points (38g-129a) and 657 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, Monfredo played one season (2011-12) of NCAA Division III hockey for SUNY-Fredonia, where he tallied eight points (3g-5a) and 22 penalty minutes in 26 games for the Blue Devils. He also skated for the Motor City Machine/Metal Jackals of the North American Hockey League, where he generated 78 points (16g-62a) and 501 penalty minutes in 154 games.
