Growlers' Snowden heads to AHL

Newfoundland Growlers' Head Coach John Snowden has been named an asssitant coach of the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies.

Snowden went 58-27-7 in 92 games as head coach of the Growlers. After joining Newfoundland as an assistant coach for it inaugural season in 2018-19, he was elevated to head coach on Jan. 24, 2019 after Ryane Clowe stepped down due to health reasons. Snowden led the Growlers to the 2019 Kelly Cup title as Newfoundland became the first ECHL team to win the League title in its first season of existence since Greensboro in 1990. 

Prior to joining the Growlers' coaching staff, Snowden was an assistant coach for the Orlando Solar Bears for three seasons from 2015-18.

As a player, Snowden skated in 305 career ECHL games with Texas, Greenville, Reading and Idaho, totaling 228 points (106g-122a). He also saw time in the American Hockey League, International Hockey League, Central Hockey League and the German Oberliga.
