ECHL Blog Post #5: November 3, 2015

This week was unique as we only had one game on the schedule. We took the two hour bus trip to Greenville on Friday to play against the Swamp Rabbits. We played a solid game and won 3-2. We enjoyed our night off on Saturday by having a team Halloween Party. There were a lot of great costumes, but my vote for best dressed goes to Justin Buzzeo and Brock Higgs. They went as Harry and Marv, the burglars from Home Alone.

This afternoon, we are flying to Boise, Idaho, where we will play against the Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. I have never been to Boise, but I’ve heard that it is an awesome place to play and visit. Three games on the road, against a team we are unfamiliar with, should be a good test for our squad.

Shout out to my buddy, Trey!

I’m sure a lot or most of you saw this last week on social media. During a game on Thursday between the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins, in Pittsburgh, Sabres coach Dan Bylsma tossed a puck into the stands for a young boy. The puck was intercepted by an older man, who put the puck into his pocket and sat down. The scene was shown during the TV broadcast, prompting social media to erupt. Before too long, coach Bylsma made sure the boy got another puck. Then, Iceburgh, the Penguins’ mascot, visited the kid and gave him another puck and a Sidney Crosby jersey! As I was watching the events unfold on TV, I realized that I knew this kid! His name is Trey Dopson. I coach him during the summer and he really is a great kid. Kudos to everyone involved for making a special moment for Trey. This is what sports are all about!
