ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Everblades announced that their fans helped raise more than $42,000 for the ECHL Membership Assistance Fund through two jersey auctions held by the team in December.
The Everblades wore special jerseys for the Mississippi Sea Wolves and the Texas Wildcatters, who were both unable to play in 2005-06 because of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The jerseys were auctioned off following each of the games with more than $22,000 raised from the Mississippi jerseys on Dec. 21 and over $20,000 from the Texas jerseys on Dec. 22.
“As an organization we are extremely proud and fortunate to have the fans that we do,” said Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush. “Whenever called upon to help a good cause, our fans always go above and beyond to donate. In particular with this situation our fans, more than others, know what those in Biloxi and Beaumont went through with the devastation of the hurricanes.”
