PENSACOLA, Fla. – A lot of hockey players have hung up their skates and picked up golf clubs.
Kelly Hultgren and Shane Calder have done that one better. The former Pensacola Ice Pilots have found a second career in the golf world, and they still get to play for fun.
Hultgren is the president and Calder is the district manager for the local franchise of LeaderBoard Tournament Systems. The business primarily is hired for golf tournaments, providing pro tour-type scoreboards as well as a multimedia presentation on a video projection screen.
“We’re really an entertainment company,” said Hultgren, 32, a defenseman for the Pilots from 1996-99. “Our main core of business is golf tournaments, but we also do other types of banquets. We can do weddings, runs, marathons. We can do anything.”
The franchise, the first of 13 in the United States for a corporation based in Vacouver, British Columbia, opened in February 2002. Serving the Gulf Coast region from Biloxi, Miss., to Tallahassee and up to Dothan, Ala., LeaderBoard Tournament Systems could be busy year-round.
