There’s a bond that develops between teammates involved in winning a championship that can never be broken.
Travis Morin and Patrick Wellar have just such a connection. Morin and Wellar were key components in the South Carolina Stingrays’ run toward the franchise’s third ECHL Kelly Cup playoff championship last spring.
“It’s not something you can describe,” Wellar said. “I think it’s something only teammates can experience. When you work that hard for something and you’re together as much as we were as a team, it’s a special bond that’s going to stay with you the rest of your life.”
But this year, Wellar and Morin find themselves on the opposite side of the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup finals. Game 1 of the best-of-seven series begins tonight in Hershey.
