Florida’s Surma Named CCM TACKS
ECHL Player of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. – Florida left wing Damian Surma is the CCM TACKS ECHL Player of the Month for October.

The 23-year-old Surma led the ECHL in October with seven goals, 12 points and a plus-minus rating of +9 while tying for the league lead in power-play goals with three. In five games, the 5-10 and 205-pound Surma had two multiple-goal games, including his first professional hat trick, and four multiple-point games, including a career professional best four points.

Selected in the sixth round (174th overall) by Carolina in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and under contract to Lowell of the American Hockey League, the 5-10 and 205-pound Surma scored a power-play goal and had an assist in the Everblades 6-2 season-opening win against Texas and scored both Florida goals in a 3-2 loss to Texas on October 23. After picking up an assist in a 4-3 win against Gwinnett, Surma scored his first hat trick and had an assist for a career-high four points in a 6-3 win against Mississippi on October 29. He closed out the month with three points (1g-2a) while establishing the league season high for plus-minus rating (+4) in a 5-4 loss at Pensacola on October 30.
