The Gwinnett Gladiators announced that forward Michael Forney was recalled by the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves on Wednesday.
The Gladiators are the ECHL affiliate of the Wolves and the Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League.
Forney, 22, represented the Gladiators in the ECHL All-Star Classic in January. The Thief River Falls, MN native registered 14 goals and 38 assists for Gwinnett this season in 50 games, and had at least a point in 19 of the Glads last 22 games. He was tied for third in the ECHL in assists and ranked ninth in points at the time of his call-up and led Gwinnett in both categories.
Forney was a third round pick of the Thrashers (#80 overall) in the 2006 NHL Draft. He logged five games with the Wolves this season picking up an assist. This is the second time he had been recalled during the 2010-11 campaign.
Last season as a rookie Forney had 26 points (11g-15a) in 63 games with the Gladiators and didn’t have a point in three games with the Wolves.
